    TechGirls Mission

TechGirls is a non-profit organization focused on overcoming the gender disparity in computing fields through workshops, programs, and exposure to computing careers. Currently, only 12% of engineers are female and 18% of computer science degrees belong to women. Our mission is to encourage females, especially from underserved areas, to explore computing fields by providing meaningful opportunities for girls to create with technology.

Technology Immersion Program for Middle School Girls

The TechGirls Mobile App Development and Social Entrepreneurship Program at The College of New Jersey is a series of mobile app development and technology entrepreneurship workshops for middle school girls. Throughout the sessions, participants will learn how to build their own mobile apps to address a substantial problem in their community and will present their ideas on the Mobile App Showcase & Pitch Day. Essentially, program participants will be put in the shoes of technology entrepreneurs through a mobile app startup simulation, allowing them to see the possible career pathway of starting their own business or nonprofit. Program participants will also learn about education and careers in the field by interacting with computing professionals and entrepreneurs and learning about opportunities available for innovation and leadership in computing.

The program is hosted by the Computer Science Department at The College of New Jersey and funded by the National Center for Women & Information Technology.
